He fulminated against Republican presidencies from Reagan through the Bushes. A letter in Ned’s scratchy hand always came through, throbbing with political and environmental angst and with barbs often directed at the caliber of the notes themselves.Īn ardent Democrat and activist, Ned despaired of arousing classmates to weigh in on national and world affairs instead of offering what he dismissed as “trivia” about promotions, cruises, family doings and health reports. It can keep track of the information when you might need a new battery or troubleshoot a reason why the computer’s performance is being affected. It’s really easy to figure out how many battery cycles your MacBook battery has gone through. ![]() Remember that one full battery cycle is from complete charge to complete battery drain, which may happen over several days of average use. The MacBook Pro battery is designed to hold 80% of its total charging capacity for at least these estimated battery cycle count numbers.Īfter the maximum cycle count limit, the battery will still function but not hold a charge for as long. Keep in mind that these are only estimates, and each battery life can vary. The battery is considered consumed once it reaches the limit. Note that these are just estimated numbers, and the number of cycles your battery can go through before needing a replacement may vary based on usage patterns and environmental conditions. According to the official Apple guide, the following are the estimated number of cycles: MacBook Model The average number of battery cycles is 1000 but can be as low as 300 for some really old models. The estimated number of cycles your battery can go through before needing to be replaced can vary by the model and year of your MacBook Pro. How Many Cycles Can MacBook Battery Go Through? You may notice that your battery doesn’t hold a charge for as long as it did when it was new. Although MacBook Pro batteries are designed to last a long time, they will eventually wear down and must be replaced. After a certain number of battery cycles, your battery’s overall power will diminish, and it won’t last as long as it used to. Remember, a healthy battery life means a happy Mac! Morisaki gets a rough deal from Muto and also from Matsuno for most of the film, but he doesn’t ultimately stand in judgement over them, and that gets to something very important about Ocean Waves. The film deals with all kinds of issues, including bullying, and there is some troubling violence. At that point we begin to get some insight as to why she might be a little messed up. She can see that Morisaki and Matsuno are infatuated with her (even if one of them won’t admit it to himself) and she takes full advantage of that, borrowing money from them to fund a trip to Tokyo to see her father and her old boyfriend, and lying about why she needs the money. It doesn’t take long before she has marked herself out as one of the cleverest girls in the school. She arrives from Tokyo and immediately looks down on these simple kids with their silly accents, living in Kochi on the island of Shikoku, the smallest of the four main islands of Japan. To be honest, Muto (the characters call each other by their last names, as is their tradition) is not a very nice person for most of the film, quite the opposite of the usual kind of Ghibli female protagonist, although she does have the independence and bravery to a certain extent. The story concerns a schoolboy called Taku Morisaki, whose friendship with his best friend Yutaka Matsuno is thrown into chaos when a new girl arrives at the school, Rikako Muto. You won’t find heroes and villains here, just people. It is another of Ghibli’s slice-of-life films. Ocean Waves is well worth that extra little bit of effort though. Perhaps the younger generation will find this less of a problem, in this age of multi-tasking, scrolling through the internet while watching television, or whatever. ![]() Your attention is divided, and it is difficult to entirely appreciate the artwork when you are trying to read at the same time. It’s not that I particularly mind subtitled films, but it is a different kind of viewing experience. In fact, there are several Ghibli films that are far inferior to this, but have been dubbed nonetheless. It may not be the best the range has to offer, made by the younger members of staff at the studio for a 1993 release, and with a simpler form of animation to many Ghibli releases, but it still deserves the dub treatment. One Studio Ghibli film still remains frustratingly overlooked for an English dub: Ocean Waves. Full of shots bathed in a palette of pleasingly soft pastel colors and rich in the unexpected visual details typical of Studio Ghibli’s most revered works, Ocean Waves is an accomplished teenage drama and a true discovery.I was recently lucky enough to be able to enjoy Only Yesterday dubbed into English for the first time, which really brought the film to life for me. Ocean Waves was the first Studio Ghibli film directed by someone other than studio founders Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, as director Tomomi Mochizuki led a talented staff of younger employees in an adaptation of Saeko Himuro’s best-selling novel. When Taku joins Rikako on a trip to Tokyo, the school erupts with rumors, and the three friends are forced to come to terms with their changing relationships. But they soon find their friendship tested by the arrival of Rikako, a beautiful new transfer student from Tokyo whose attitude vacillates wildly from flirty and flippant to melancholic. Taku and his best friend Yutaka are headed back to school for what looks like another uneventful year. Rarely seen outside of Japan, Ocean Waves is a subtle, poignant and wonderfully detailed story of adolescence and teenage isolation. The game has received positive reception thanks to its ability to build a narrative on bullying and received a 7.0 user score on Metacritic. ![]() Admyrall, whom I have found a most noble Frend, a fair gylt Bason & Ewer, wh a fair Garter. It is very common to see them hanging by one leg from telephone or power lines in a rainstorm getting soaking wet and screeching with delight. Max held that galahs are very self-confident and have a great zest for life, and seem not in the least disturbed in anything they may care to do or be caught doing. It seemed to be that the reference to a 'silly galah' is based on the sheer exuberance of the species and its willingness to indulge in play behaviour - galahs appear completely devoid of "dignified" or calm behaviour to the observer. Inquiries of Australian countrymen in the 1970s suggest that this is a misunderstanding. "Galah" is also derogatory Australian slang, synonymous with 'fool' or ' idiot'. Galahs are highly social and very long-lived: though they are sometimes kept as pets, this is not something to be undertaken lightly as they bond socially with their owners and may well outlive them, and like most cockatoos, are noisy and require a great deal of attention and care. The changes wrought by European settlement, a disaster for many species, have been highly beneficial for the galah because of the clearing of forests in fertile areas and the provision of stock watering points in arid zones. They are common in some metropolitan areas, for example Perth and Melbourne, and common to abundant in open habitats which offer at least some scattered trees for shelter. They appear to have been self-introduced to Tasmania. Galahs are found in all Australian states, and are absent only from the driest areas and the far north of Cape York Peninsula. kuhli, found right across the northern part of the continent, tends to be a little smaller and is distinguished from albiceps by differences in the shape and colour of the crest, although its status as a valid subspecies is uncertain. Most pet birds outside Australia are the south-eastern form. roseicapillus, although the extent and nature of the central hybrid zone remains undefined. albiceps, is clearly distinct from the paler-bodied Western Australian nominate subspecies, E. The significance of these two (and other) characters shared by the Cacatuinae had previously been explained away in earlier studies by strict application of parsimony on misinterpreted data.Īviary-bred crosses of galahs and Major Mitchell's Cockatoos have been bred in Sydney, with the tapered wings of the galah and the crest and colours of the Major Mitchell's, as well as its plaintive cry. Today, the galah is seen, along with Major Mitchell's Cockatoo, as an early divergence from the white cockatoo lineage which have not completely lost their ability to produce an overall pink (Major Mitchell's) or pink and grey (galah) body plumage, while already being light in colour and non-sexually dimorphic. It fell to the study of Brown & Toft (1999) to compare the previously available data with their mitochondrial 12S rRNA sequence research and resolve the issue. ![]() Ignorance of this fact, however, led to attempts to resolve the evolutionary history and prehistoric biogeography of the cockatoos, which ultimately proved fruitless because they were based on invalid assumptions to start with. In consequence, it was thought that the ancestors of the galah, the cockatiel and Major Mitchell's Cockatoo diverged from the main white cockatoo line at some stage prior to that group's main radiation this was indeed correct except for the placement of the cockatiel. Early DNA studies allied the galah with the cockatiel or placed it close to some Cacatua species of completely different appearance. There are obvious morphological similarities between the galah and the white cockatoos that make up the genus Cacatua and indeed the galah was initially described as Cacatua roseicapilla. It was separated in the monotypic genus Eolophus, but the further relationships were not clear. The classification of the Galah was difficult. Typical birds are about 350mm long and weigh between 300 and 400 grams. ![]() Sexes are similar, differing only in eye colour: the male has a brown iris, the female red. ![]() Galahs have a pale to mid grey back, a pink face and chest, and a light pink crest.
